Pressure Switches

Pressure switches and sensors are essential components in various industrial and manufacturing applications. These devices provide vital electrical feedback in response to changes in pressure, enabling precise monitoring and control of pressure-based systems. Applications Engineering offers a wide selection of high-quality pressure switches and sensors to meet the diverse needs of our customers. Our products are designed to perform reliably in demanding environments, from water pumps and compressors to aircraft cabin pressure systems and battery charge control.

What is a Pressure Switch?

A pressure switch, also known as a pressure sensor, utilises fluid pressure within a chamber to activate a physical mechanism that opens or closes electrical contacts. This triggers connected apparatus, such as a pump or alarm system. The pressure point at which the switch is activated is preset during manufacturing. In contrast, an electronic pressure switch uses electronic signals to trigger the switch.

Types of Pressure Switches

At Applications Engineering, we supply a wide range of pressure switches designed to meet diverse application requirements:

Single Pole Single Throw (SPST) Pressure SwitchesSimple and reliable switches that open or close a single circuit when a pressure threshold is reached.

Single Pole Double Throw (SPDT) Pressure SwitchesVersatile switches with two outputs, allowing one circuit to open while another closes.

Electronic Pressure SwitchesAdvanced switches with digital outputs, adjustable setpoints, and real-time monitoring.

Differential Pressure SwitchesMeasure pressure differences and activate at predefined thresholds, ensuring balance and efficiency.

Where Are Pressure Switches Used?

Pressure switches are specifically designed to be used in industrial machinery, HVAC systems, water pumps, and compressors. They are commonly used across a wide range of general-purpose applications but are particularly critical in industries such as aerospace, manufacturing, and energy production.

Why Choose Application Engineering?

At Applications Engineering, we are dedicated to providing reliable and precise pressure measurement solutions designed to meet the highest quality standards. Our range of pressure switches and sensors is manufactured to comply with all relevant industry regulations, ensuring they perform dependably even in the most critical and demanding environments.

This commitment to quality and compliance not only enhances operational efficiency but also ensures safety and peace of mind for our customers across various sectors. Single Pole Single Throw Pressure Switches

Single pole single throw (SPST) pressure switches are a simple, low-cost method of monitor pressure in a system, and can be supplied with contacts “normally open” or “normally closed”.

At Applications Engineering, we offer a range of SPST switches with variations in thread types, electrical connections and body materials. Adjustment ranges are from 0.1 to 1 bar to 30-300 bar, which is easily modified via the screw in the contact housing. Please contact us if you need more information about our pressure switch range.

Frequently Asked Questions

How to Adjust Pressure Switches

Mechanical Pressure Switches are generally not adjustable, as their pressure setpoints are predetermined during the manufacturing process to ensure precise operation for specific applications. These switches are designed to deliver reliable performance with minimal need for adjustments, making them ideal for systems where consistent pressure thresholds are required.

Electronic Pressure Switches, on the other hand, offer greater flexibility and can be adjusted to suit varying operational needs. Users can modify actuation points, pressure ranges, and other settings through a built-in interface or external controls, depending on the model. This adaptability makes electronic switches highly versatile and suitable for dynamic environments where pressure requirements may change over time.

How Does a Differential Pressure Switch Work?

A differential pressure switch is designed to monitor the pressure difference between two points within a system and activate when the difference reaches a predefined threshold. This mechanism ensures that systems maintain proper pressure balance, which is critical for safety, efficiency, and optimal performance.

What Is the Lifespan of a Pressure Switch?

The lifespan of a pressure switch depends on several factors, including the type of switch, the operating conditions, and the maintenance it receives. On average, a well-designed pressure switch can last anywhere from 5 to 10 years or longer with proper care.
