Pressure transducers are known by many names, including pressure transmitters and pressure sensor, but something they all have in common is that they measure the pressure of a liquid or a gas by converting the pressure into an analog signal.
For those without direct engineering or technical knowledge, the term ‘pressure transducer’ can sound quite overwhelming. But the truth is that pressure transducers are key components in many different pieces of machinery and tools that we take for granted.
Even if you have never heard of flow switches, you will certainly have been affected by them in your day-to-day life. They are a highly important component in many mechanical and industrial devices, as well as those in the home.
A fire sprinkler system has prevented another potential Grenfell-like disaster taking place in Croydon, saving the lives of hundreds of tenants.
Back in mid-December, during the lead up to Christmas, a fire broke out in the kitchen of a flat in The Waldrons area of Croydon.
It’s been a busy few months for us here at Applications Engineering. Not only have we seen our very own sprinkler systems in full effect, saving hundreds of lives in Southampton, but we have been busy behind the scenes as well, with our new building well on the way to being constructed.
To many people, the idea of flying seriously defies logic. It’s a concept that leaves many questioning how something so heavy can carry itself so effortlessly through the air – it must be magic.
The whole team here at Applications Engineering are excited to announce that work has begun on the build for our new office and warehouse in Maresfield.
Retrofitted fire sprinkler systems have proved their effectiveness time and time again. In this most recent example, sprinkler systems were able to keep a Hampshire-based fire at bay and protect the lives of hundreds of Southampton locals.
In November 2018, the Labour Party found that only 4% of London’s high-rise council blocks have fire sprinklers.
In February 2019, spot checks by the London Fire Brigade revealed that only 13% of new tower blocks in London had sprinklers installed.
Many leading institutions have come together in support of changing fire safety laws to recognise the benefits of sprinkler systems in new and existing buildings.
A fire at Plymouth tower block, Tamar House, last month was extinguished by retrospectively installed fire sprinklers and may have prevented another tragic disaster.
There are many different types of pressure switches, sensors, transducers and transmitters. If you’re not familiar with them, or perhaps don’t work in an industry where they aren’t commonly used, then you’d be forgiven for not knowing the difference between them.
